Lavish Top Govt Job That Nobody Wants

Kenya Pipeline Company (KPC) re-advertisement of the Managing Director is yet to be filled as the company still struggles to replace Joe Sang who left amid graft charges, Business Daily reported on Monday, September 23.

Joe Sang was implicated in a Ksh1.9 billion Kisumu jetty oil scandal that made him quit the Managing Director position at KPC.

The company, through its Board led by John Ngumi initially put up the advertisement on July 19, 2019, with applicants required to make their applications before August 2, 2019.

The company however announced on Monday, September 23, that they had not found the right candidates to proceed to the next stage of the application process.

KPC mentioned that they wanted new applicants with those who applied the first time being locked out of the new applications.

The new applicants are to submit their applications by October 14, 2019.

The inadequate applications may be due to the fact that most former MDs at the company have been involved in mega scandals in the past.

Sang alongside (Managing Director), Gloria Khafafa (Company Secretary), Vincent Cheruiyot (General Manager, Supply Chain), Billy Aseka (General Manager, Infrastructure), Nicholas Gitobu (Procurement Manager), and Samuel Odoyo (General Manager Finance) were charged in the Ksh1.9 billion denying the charges and released on a Ksh2 million bond.

Former MDs Charles Tanui (2015), Selest Kilinda (2013), George Okungu (2009), Dr Shem Ochuodho (2005), Dr Linus Cheruiyot (2004) and Ezekiel Komen were all accused of mega scandals when they were at Kenpipe Plaza.

Hudson Adambi was appointed as acting MD until April 6, 2019, but his tenure was extended to October 6, and it seems he will be continuing as the company is yet to find a replacement.

According to the Board, the new appointment will be made on a contractual basis that will focus on performance and goals set by the company.
