Sossion Wins Big as Court Rules in his Favor

A court in Nairobi ruled that embattled Knut secretary-general, Wilson Sossion, has not broken any law by holding two offices, the Daily Nation reported on Friday, September 27.

The Labour Court through Justice Maurene Onyango decided that there was nothing unconstitutional about Sossion being a Member of Parliament and KNUT secretary-general.

Sossion, who had been in the middle office tenure drama at the teachers' union, got a sigh of relief as the petitioners failed in yet another renewed drive to remove him from his position at Knut.

The Teachers Services Commission (TSC) had on September 1, deregistered him as a teacher due to his nomination to Parliament.

Sossion, however, blamed top politicians for meddling in the business of the union and disturbing the peace that was within.

"Do you think it's a small battle? You think those bankrolling a section of the NEC, just targeting one individual are small people? Even you can surely see it. That is why I am saying Teachers Service Commission (TSC) and others," he affirmed.

Sossion blamed the TSC for collaborating with outside forces to disrupt the activities of the teachers union.

"There are political leaders in this country afraid of a powerful trade union, and we want to tell them to let trade unions be. They now think that removing Sossion, they will kill KNUT. Sossion is just but an individual, he will go when his time is up but the union will remain," Sossion added.

Sossion was on Citizen TV on Thursday, September 20, where he claimed that the TSC was paying some Knut members to fight him.

"These are men and women I have fought with, trust me what they are doing is not from their heart. They are being promised goodies in return if they throw me out," he stated.
