Ksh12 Million Goes Missing After DP Ruto's Fundraiser, MP Probed

A Member of Parliament is in trouble after Ksh12 Million raised in a fundraiser where Deputy President William Ruto was the chief guest was reported missing.

Fafi MP Abdikarim Osman Mohamed is facing a probe over how the money from the fundraiser was spent after a report was filed by a Garissa Human Rights Watch Group.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, the group's vice-chairperson, Darod Farah stated that funds drive held in Bura on November 23, 2018, was meant to build classrooms for Madrassas.

However, none of the targetted benefitted from the money raised, the human rights activist told Kenyans.co.ke over the phone.

"After the Harambee, the funds were handed over to the MP. Nearly one year down the line, the funds that were taken by Fafi MP Hon Abdikarim Osman have not reached the intended beneficiaries," he told this writer over the phone.

He stated that he had approached DCI and EACC for investigations disclosing that the investigative bodies had promised to follow up on the matter.

A Sheikh who spoke to Kenyans.co.ke stated that after the fundraiser, the MP formed a team that would manage the disbursement of the money.

"They said that we would receive the money as salaries for teachers, we have not gotten any to build classrooms," he stated on condition of anonymity.

Attempts to reach the MP for comment were futile as calls went unanswered.

In 2018 fundraiser, DP Ruto was accompanied by a number of leaders from the region.

At the time, the national assembly majority leader Aden Duale stated that "Islamic religion is the cornerstone of community development and today Deputy President assisted in the construction of more Islamic schools in Fafi and Dadaab Constituencies."
