Nyong'o Beats Nephew in Court

Kisumu Governor Peter Anyang' Nyong'o and his sister Risper Nyago on Thursday, October 3, took a sigh of relief as a court halted the sharing of a family estate between the two and nephew.

In December 2018, their nephew Kenneth Okuthe had filed an application in court seeking to have the governor and his sister arrested for contempt of court following the ruling on their highly publicised inheritance case.

Nyongo’s nephew, Kenneth Odhiambo sued the governor and his sister for leaving some relatives out of the list of beneficiaries of their late father’s assets.

In May 2019, the two were found guilty of contempt for refusing to include their nephew on the inheritance list of the property that had been left behind by their father, Hesbone Shimei.

The governor had made an appeal after Justice Thripsisa Cherere, in October 2018, ruled that the court was satisfied that the petitioners were entitled to the property of the deceased.

The judge ruled that the grant which gave the two control of the multi-million property was illegal.

The property included a 100-acre piece of land in Miwani and flats on Jogoo road in Nairobi, parcels of land in Manyatta, Tamu, Milimani and East Rata in Seme sub-county.

Justice Cherere had also revoked letters of administration and certificate of confirmation of grant that placed Nyong'o and the sister as the sole controllers of the estate, during her ruling.

Back in April 17, 2019 the two had moved to have Odhiambo's application dismissed. Odhiambo had at one time claimed his life was in danger.
