Seven suspects who are believed to have stolen vehicles during a Churchill Show screening in Eldoret were arrested on Monday, October 8.
Uasin Gishu County Police Commander (CPC), Johnstone Ipara confirmed that they had recovered two of the vehicles that were stolen during the popular comedy show held at the Eldoret Sports Club two weeks before.
A total of eight vehicles were recovered during the operation that uncovered detailed information on the car theft syndicate.
“We have been trailing this syndicate for quite some time before we eventually busted them in the confines of their hidings," the Uasin Gishu CPC stated while speaking to K24.
The suspects are believed to be part of a well-coordinated syndicate responsible for a string of car heists in Kericho, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo Marakwet, Nakuru and Bomet counties.
"Cases of car theft have been on the rise within the town and even in the neighbouring counties which prompted our offices to expedite the investigation and arrest culprits,” CPC Ipara affirmed.
The workshop which was raided leading up to the arrest contained parts of dismantled vehicles as well as stolen cars fitted with unregistered plates.
Ipara went on to urge members of the public who had lost their vehicles to make their way to the Eldoret Central Police Station, to find out if they could be among those that were recovered following the raid.
A victim of one of the robberies carried out by the suspects, Josephat Nyamu, successfully identified various parts of his stripped-down car. He went on to reveal that he lost his car on September 6, along Mandago Street next to Zion Mall in Eldoret.
Ipara announced that the suspects were currently detained at Eldoret Central Police Station.
