Uhuru's Personal Phonecall to Kipchoge Ahead of 1:59 Challenge [VIDEO]

President Uhuru Kenyatta on Friday, October 11, made a phone call to marathon world record holder Eliud Kipchoge who was in Vienna Austria to participate in a highly publicised feat.

Uhuru assured the elite runner of the entire country's backing as he set out to make history as the first human being to run a full marathon in under two hours.

The president made the call at the sidelines St Mary's School Nairobi's 80th-anniversary celebrations where he was the main guest.

"You are in our prayers my friend, I just wanted to pass on that message to you. We just pray that you will be successful,"  the president told Kipchoge.

He further stated that, for Kenyans, success was not the only thing but rather the effort behind it meant everything.

"May God bless you my brother and continue protecting you and give you all the strength and courage you need and remember you have all the 46 million of us behind you," Uhuru added.

In the video shared by the State House, the president also promised to call the athlete immediately after the race.

In related news Deputy President William Ruto on Friday, October 11 also landed in Viena to support the athlete in his bid to break the world record.

"Kipchoge is not running to compete with anyone today. His race encompasses more momentous stakes. He is running as a statement of his preparation, his discipline and endurance, his philosophy and values," the DP stated.

Nominated Senator Millicent Omanga also made the trip to Austria to support Kipchoge

The race will take place on Saturday, October 12 at 9:15 am Kenyan Time, in Vienna, the capital city of Austria as Kipchoge attempts to be the first human to run the 42-kilometre race in under 2 hours.
