Miguna's Insensitive Remarks on Likoni Tragedy Victims Spark Outrage

Controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna sparked outrage online following his comments concerning the recovery efforts of the victims that lost their lives in the Likoni ferry accident.

In a barrage of tweets posted on his page on Saturday, October 12, Miguna attacked the media and the police officers over what he termed wrong information that they were feeding the public.

"For those without imagination or who cannot think beyond what the incompetent men in uniform and the compromised media feeds them, Mariam parked her vehicle inside the Ferry and joined her daughter, Amanda, at the back, hoping to enjoy the ride to the other side," he tweeted.

This information was in contravention to what The Standard had reported on Saturday, October 12, that the bodies appeared to have been flung backward by some violent motion as the car dipped into the waters.

They alleged that they had gained access to CCTV footage depicting the moment that car slid from the prow of the MV Harambee ferry and plunged into the ocean at 6.13 pm on September 29.

In the footage, they stated that Amanda could be seen playing on her mother’s lap on the driver’s seat before the vehicle plunged into the sea.

With that being the last of the footage, the paper concluded that the victims could have desperately moved to the back seat to trying to break through the back window as the car sunk headlong.

Miguna, however, insisted that the mother and daughter had not been seated at the front seat as the paper had reported, but had sat at the back waiting for the ferry to cross over to the other side.

"Mariam had not placed the vehicle in "reverse" as 'zombies' had speculated. She was seated with her daughter at the back of the vehicle as most motorists do in Kenya on a daily basis as they use the Ferry Service.

Kenyans immediatey pounced on him over his insult-laden commentary concerning the sensitive tragedy.

"Miguna, leave Kenyan matters to Kenyans, please! Don't call Kenyans "zombies," an angry user posed.

"The eye witness! Enlighten them. Were you there? Did she (Mariam) call you?" another mocked him.

Many other angry users urged him to stop commenting on issues he did not understand well, while others lauded the Kenya Navy's concerted efforts to recover the bodies, pointing to the fact that Miguna had dismissed them as incompetent before.

"One would think you were in that car... Swallow your pride. The debate about the ability of the team led by our gallant Kenya Navy to retrieve the bodies should now end... Egg on you," another commented.
