Muthama Speaks on Ditching Kalonzo

Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama was urged by a section of Kamba politicians to step out of Kalonzo's Wiper Party and focus on his own political ambitions ahead of the 2022 general election.

The leaders who were speaking at the burial of nominated MCA Anne Wairumu on Saturday, October 12 at Matungulu Constituency accused Kalonzo's party of the inability to run free, fair and transparent party nominations.

However, speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on phone, Muthama rubbished the advice given to him by the leaders stateing that politicians in Kenya often focussed on trivialities instead of substantial development issues.

Bernard Kiala, the former deputy governor of Machakos cited the huge fall out between Wiper and its aspirants in the run up to the 2017 general election as one of the reasons which would have forced Muthama to decamp from wiper.

Peter Mathuki of the People's Trust Party argued that Wiper messed up during the 2017 nominations which needed to be avoided when Muthama sets out to fight for the Machakos gubernatorial seat.

"We have heard rumors that Muthama will be vying for the Machakos governor seat and we want him to be confident because we will rally behind him,” Mathuki stated in a report by The Standard.

In direct advice, former Kola MCA, Festus Ndeto told Muthama to seek an alternative party in his new political journey.

“We are telling you for a fact that you should find an option early enough because the (Wiper) ticket will never be handed to you. From our honest observation, we can predict you will not be the preferred candidate for Wiper in the gubernatorial race," Ndeto reiterated.

Asked for comment, Muthama replied, "Hii ni chuki tu ya Wakenya (This is just typical hatred). In this country, if you are not seen fighting your brother, then you are not doing the right thing. Unless you are not stealing, then you are not doing the right thing."

Muthama and his party leader Kalonzo Musyoka are reported to have a frosty relationship even though the former senator maintains that the two are okay.

In June, Muthama came out strongly and chastised Makueni governor Kivutha Kibwana, Machakos Alfred Mutua and Kitui's Charity Ngilu for going against Kalonzo.

Muthama in an NTV newsbulletin said that had Kalonzo listened to him, Mutua and Kibwana would never have been governors and in turn they would not have gone against the Wiper boss who propped them to power.
