Selfless Act by Census Official Saves Bedridden Elderly Woman

A census official in Kisii on Tuesday, October 22, was hailed for her heroism that saved over 11 elderly women from a life of misery.

The unnamed woman was touched by the plight of one of the grannies, Esther Bosibori, who was stuck in the house nearly 17 years courtesy of her disability.

She took upon herself to seek assistance from the area MCA in purchasing a wheelchair for the elderly woman.

"I was among the census staff in this area when I met this woman and sympathised with her situation and couldn't leave her like that. So I call the area MCA because she needed a wheelchair," the woman told reporters.

The lady was speaking after she accompanied the MCA to the woman's residence in order to hand over the life-changing gift.

According to the guests who had accompanied the MCA, the census brought to light more than ten cases of similar residents immobilised by physical disability.

They noted that disabled elderly women were the most affected by neglect by their caretakers.

The action by the young woman moved the area leaders to visit several disabled elderly women who were bedridden in the area providing them with essential supplies.

In the door-to-door exercise, all affected women were given a chance to spend some time with their leaders who left them stocked with a considerable supply of essentials.
