Uhuru's Birthday : How Kenyans Celebrated the President

On October 26, 1961, President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta was born and in 58 years later, netizens took to the internet to celebrate with him as he turned 58.

Most people decided to put politics aside and celebrate his birthday.

Others were keen to remember that on the same day in 2017, they were qued up in polling stations for the repeat presidential polls.

On Twitter, the hashtag 'Happy Birthday Mr President' trended with many sharing their opinions on his successes and failures.

Top of the list was his deputy and the second in command William Ruto who wished the head of state a happy birthday.

"Happy birthday to my friend and boss H.E President Uhuru Kenyatta. You are a great inspiration to me, Jubilee leadership and millions of Kenyans as the youngest president we've ever had. As we age, I look forward to what we agreed to do when we retire. Remember? Ubarikiwe mpaka ushangae!," the DP tweeted.

Controversial media personality Tony Gachoka urged the president to reflect on his legacy which he claimed had been dented by corruption and asked him to tackle the vice no matter the price he had to pay.

Members of the public were not left behind either with some of them complaining about the tough times in the economy.

"As we wish you a happy birthday, just remember we aren't happy or we are pretending to be.

With our daily struggles our birthdays pass unnoticed!" twitted Patrick Ahinda.

"The best president Kenya has ever had. Happy Happy Birthday His Excellency Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta," Moses Kimng'etich posted on twitter.

"Thank you for contributing immensely to the meme industry. This is your legacy, sir," Zamzam Haji joked.
