Nigerian Ritual Jalang'o Performed on Wife During Ceremony

On Saturday, October 26, Milele FM presenter and comedian Felix Odiwuor, alias Jalang'o, celebrated his wife Amina Chao in a traditional ceremony.

Pictures shared by the comedian via his Instagram on Tuesday, October 29, showed Jalang'o performing a Nigerian ritual on his bride.

During the ceremony, the comedian was seen showering his wife with crisp Ksh1,000 notes as she stood excitedly with a microphone in one hand.

The act of showering the bride with money is a Nigerian ritual that is performed at some wedding receptions in various cultures.

During a money dance, male guests pay to dance briefly with the bride, and sometimes, female guests pay to dance with the groom.

The guests drop small bills on the happy couple to symbolise their hopes for good fortune.

According to some international publications, the money dance originated from Poland and takes place after the couple has had their first dance.

"Sometimes guests are told that the money will be used for the bride and groom's honeymoon or to give them a little extra cash with which to set up housekeeping," The Hudsonvalleyweddings website explains.
