President Uhuru Kenyatta started his second term on a high note after he started making public appearances in a stretch limousine that captured the imaginations of many.
He caused a stir among Kenyans, most notably car enthusiasts, when they spotted the 6-metre-long, 6 ton, armoured Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Guard.
Due to the intense secrecy that surrounds the president's day to day activities, some of the information concerning his official vehicles falls under the 'classified' files, making it hard to unearth the exactness.
According to the Business Insider, a magazine devoted to matters luxury cars, the vehicles' armoured protection includes integrated steel protection panels inside the body along with overlapping protection panels in critical areas of the car, including the sides and the top.
Car Bazaar mentioned in 2016 that the Mercedes-Maybach S600 Pullman Guard provides complete protection of class VR9 (in transparent and non-transparent areas) and is certified for blast resistance in accordance with Directive ERV 2010.
The directive prescribes the detonation of 15kg TNT (bomb) from a distance of 2 meters. Such a blast would turn an unarmoured car into smithereens as soon as it goes off, but tests showed that it would barely have any effect on the armoured Pullman.
The vehicle is also reported to be equipped with ultra-thick laminated glass windows which have been coated with polycarbonate, which makes the vehicle high-impact resistant, as well as excellent flammability protection.
The vehicle is equipped with a twin-turbocharged V12 engine with 530 horsepower, limiting the luxurious vehicle to a top speed of 160km/h, a speed at which it can make a turn without keeling over.
Among a few powerful individuals who own a similar model are North Korea's Kim Jong Un, and Russia's Vladmir Putin.
According to the manufacturers, it takes one and a half-years for the car to be delivered after it has been ordered, due to the intense process it takes to armour the car.
The vehicle also comes with a flag pole that allows the user to attach the country's flag.
