Ex-NMG Journalist Offers to Fight for Fired K24 TV Staff

Following the mass firing at Mediamax on Wednesday, October 30, an advocate and former Nation Media Group journalist Wahome Thuku, disclosed that he was willing to help the axed scribes.

Thuku, through his social media, disclosed that he once lost his job at Nation Media Group and did not want the fired employees to undergo the same.

"In February 2007, Nation Media Group fired me in the most humiliating manner. One late afternoon, you are called to a high office, where you meet top managers and they deliver the news to you, 'we don't need you anymore,' part of Thuku's excerpt read.

Further, he stated that he would give legal counsel to the affected journalists for free.

"I don't want Mediamax employees to go through what I went through. So I will support you free of charge. As soon as you get those dismissal letters, bring them to me," he advised.

Thuku added that he would liaise with other lawyers to go through the letters, promising that he would institute legal proceedings against the company where need be.

On Wednesday the media house issued termination letters to its employees, a month after issuing the notice.

Kenyans.co.ke confirmed that the media house laid off its highly salaried news anchors, all editors and senior news.

Some of those mentioned by a highly-placed source included; news anchors Mwanaisha Chidzuga, Swahili Managing Editor, Franklin Wambugu, Deputy Managing Editor Ali Mtenzi, Head of Sports Torome Tirike, Head of Business Tony Timase, Senior Reporter Frankilin Macharia and Swahili anchor Juma Bhalo.
