Businessman Hired Hitmen Who Killed Wife and Mother-in-law

On Saturday, October 26, two gunmen stormed the home of a businessman shooting dead his wife and his mother-in-law in Katani, Machakos County.

According to Daily Nation on Thursday, October 31, the DCI revealed that the hitmen who murdered a woman and her mother as the husband watched 'helplessly' were actually hired by the man himself.

The man, initially hired as a family driver, but who had fallen in love with his employer's daughter and with whom he was living as husband and wife, told the sleuths that he had hired the men to take out his lover.

In a mysterious case of poetic justice, the man was also shot by the thug on his payroll in the leg but that he managed to drive himself to Shalom Hospital, 20km away, for treatment.

According to the publication, the driver had initially told officers that he was driving into his compound, with his “wife” Purity Wanjiru on Saturday night when two gunmen on a motorcycle accosted them as his mother-in-law Ann Katita was opening the gate.

He further stated that the gunmen first shot Katita in the head and turned their guns on Wanjiru and also shot her in the head before escaping with their purses.

The case was brought to light after one of the hitmen, an instructor at the General Service Unit (GSU) training school in Embakasi, was arrested as he sought treatment for a gunshot wound he suffered during the attack.

While receiving treatment at a clinic in Komarock estate in Nairobi on Tuesday, October 29, the attendants secretly notified police officers from Kayole Police Station of a patient they were treating for gunshot wounds.

Minutes later, the officers arrived and the patient could not explain how he sustained the bullet wounds. He was arrested and handed over to the DCI.

It was later reported that he finally cracked late in the evening after hours of questioning and agreed to lead the officers to Kambi Estate in Katani area of Machakos County.

In a dramatic raid in a house just a stone's throw away from the two victims' house, a 30-year-old man was shot dead in his father's house after he defied orders by the DCI to surrender

The detectives stated that they had been led to the house by the GSU instructor.

His parents were also arrested for not notifying the police about their son's criminal activities and the presence of firearms in their compound.

Wanjiru’s mother was a well-known businesswoman in Mlolongo, running a string of alcohol distribution stores. She financed the two lover’s lifestyle, including building a mansion for them in Katani early 2019.
