The routine at the church in the deputy president's Karen home includes fasting from six in the morning to six in the evening every Wednesday, which is followed by a service.

At the ceremony, Rachel and another preacher led Mariga, who was kneeling at the altar, in prayers to bless his political pursuits.

On her Facebook page, Rachel shared bible verses exhorting Mariga to trust in God for victory in the daunting task ahead of him.

"We joined together in prayer as we all wished him the best as he runs for the seat of a Member of Parliament for Kibra constituency," she stated.

Mariga has pulled no stops in his journey to replace the late Ken Okoth who succumbed to cancer on July 26, 2019.

He faces stiff competition from  ODM's Imran Okoth, and both are seen as frontrunners in the race to represent Kibra Constituency.

Other candidates running for the seat include Eliud Owalo of the Amani National Congress and Khamisi Butichi of Ford Kenya.
