Ida Odinga's Less Known Prestigious Job

Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's wife Ida has for the longest time managed to keep her life under wraps and most of her business endeavours secretive.

Unknown to many, Ida is a force behind the financial might of the Odinga family, as she plays a major role in the family business. 

The University of Nairobi graduate is the managing director of East Africa Spectre Limited according to the company's website.

East Africa Spectre Ltd is a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinder manufacturer and revalidating company based in Industrial Area, Nairobi.

Her husband a director in the company while Oburu Odinga is the company's chairperson.

German-trained Engineer Israel Agina is a Co-managing director at the firm.

Before taking up the role Ida is said to have been trained in administration and management at the Kenya Institute of Administration.

She then did several management courses in and outside the country and participated in the Beijing Platform of Action and CSW meetings in New York.

Ida is also a trained teacher who taught at Kenya High and worked as a senior education officer.

She has been active in many other activities in the country. In 1992, together with other like-minded women, she founded the League of Kenya Women Voters (LKWV).

Ida is also a member of several organizations such as the Maendeleo ya Wanawake, Kenya Women Finance Trust, and the National Council of Women of Kenya.

She was a council member for Maseno University and a board member of Kenyan Paraplegic Organisation (KPO)

Ida served in the boards of Nyamira Girls Secondary School, Gobei Secondary School, Ndede Island Primary School and Bar Opuk Primary School.
