Police Among Two Robbers Gunned Down in Dramatic Shoot-out

Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations on Wednesday, November 6, 2019, shot dead two men suspected of robbery with violence in Njegas-Kirinyaga County.

The sleuths revealed the thugs were shot dead after they defied an order to surrender but instead opened fire at the detectives prompting them to fire back.

According to the Daily Nation, one of the slain gangsters was a police officer, who had turned into a criminal.

Taking to social media, the DCI revealed that an AK47 Rifle with 12 live rounds recovered during the operation that was led by the Special Crimes Prevention Unit of the DCI. 

The operation was conducted after the sleuths got a tip-off from members of the public when the gangsters raided the village and robbed a women's group of Ksh13,800.

DCI detectives further claimed the slain duo were planning a robbery using a Toyota Caldina and two motorcycles that were recovered from them.

"The detectives pursued the same & caught up with the gang along Njegas-Kerugoya Road. The suspects defied orders to surrender and instead opened fire using the AK rifle, where officers responded as such fatally injuring two of them," the DCI tweeted.

After the vehicle was searched three teargas canisters and motor vehicle registration number plates were recovered.

The detectives further stated that they were in pursuit of other members of the same gang.

Earlier on Tuesday, November 5, detectives from the DCI Nabbed one Congolese man as he landed at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport from Ethiopia.

Ledivin Mupanga, 41, had been accused of obtaining Ksh10,031,775 in March from a complainant with the false promise that he could purchase gold for him and thereafter disappeared.
