Govt Forced to Act After Kenyans Attack Sonko [PHOTOS]

The National government was on the morning of Wednesday, November 13, forced to step in after angry Kenyans launched an attack on Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko.

Kenyans had gone after the governor and his office following a decision to open a roundabout along Waiyaki Way in Westlands, a move they claimed increased traffic jam along the highway.

The state, through the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA), explained that it shut down the roundabout because traffic jams along the route had become unbearable.

"We discovered that the traffic jam had increased along the highway and we decided to close the roundabout. We received the order from KeNHA," a worker overseeing the operation told Kenyans.co.ke.

Sonko had been under fire for a better of the evening of Tuesday, November 12, where angry Kenyans claimed that they had been stuck at the same spot for over 2 hours.

"Westlands roundabout should remain closed forever. What is this now? 2 hours in traffic!," James Muchuku lamented on Twitter.

Some residents went as far as claiming the decision to re-open the roundabout was geared towards creating a necessity for President Uhuru Kenyatta's controversial expressway.

The roundabout had been closed off by former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero to ease traffic along the busy highway during his tenure.

In a statement to Kenyans.co.ke that evening, Nairobi County's Communications Director, Jacob Elkana, maintained that any decisions touching on roads were handled by the Kenya National Highway Authority (KeNHA).
