ODM's Savage Response to Ruto Allies Over Secret Matiang'i Meeting

The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Wednesday, November 13, hit back at Deputy President William Ruto's allies.

In a press statement, the party dispelled claims made by Kikuyu MP Kimani Ichung'wah that Interior CS Fred Matiang'i and his PS Karanja Kibicho met ODM leader Raila Odinga the eve before the Kibra by-election

"The lawmakers, driven by anger and shame after losing the vote, which the sponsor of their candidate spent a fortune to try and win, have been making juvenile allegations aimed at making the public think there was something fishy with the ODM win," the statement read.

ODM further disclosed that the alleged meeting between Odinga and the two top officials did not happen.

According to the statement written by ODM Communication Director Philip Etale, the Jubilee leaders were only trying to drag Matiang'i and Kibicho into their "agony of losing the by-election."

"We want the whining tangatanga functionaries to know that while Raila is a voter in Kibra, the two state officers aren’t and would have no interest in the constituency outside their official mandate," the presser read in part.

The party further pointed out the irony that the CS and his PS are servants of the Jubilee government that sponsored McDonald Mariga

Ichungwa had also accused the opposition leader of trying to overthrow the government using violence and impunity.

ODM, however, responded to this accusation stating that their opponents' anger was nothing new to them.

"They are used to depriving voters of the leaders they rightfully and democratically elect through undemocratic means and then resort to the clarion call of “accept and move on”. This was stopped by hawk-eyed citizens of Kibra who said no to intimidation and voter bribery by the same politicians now shouting hoarse to the rooftop," Etale wrote.
