How Drug Barons Lured Police Officer to His Death

Details have emerged about how a police officer was lured to his death by a number of drug barons in Mombasa.

Quoting Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata, Daily Nation reported that the late Constable Hesbon Okemwa Anunda was murdered by drug lords from the coastal city.

Speaking during a tour of Lamu's Boni Forest on Tuesday, November 12, the commissioner disclosed that the barons lured the officer by calling on him to arrest a fictitious drug dealer. When he arrived, they reportedly abducted and tortured him to death.

His severely mutilated body was later found in a mangrove forest in Kizingitini, Lamu County, on Friday, October 4, 2019, roughly three days after he was reported missing.

“We’re aware that those who murdered the officer are drug barons, who lured him by lying that there was a drug dealer they wanted him to arrest.

"It turns out it was a trap and a plan to actually kill the officer," stated Elungata.

He further added that police officers were still in search of the gun which was still in the hands of the dealers.

"We believe they are in possession of the officer’s gun and that they intend to use it to silence anybody who becomes a threat to their illicit drug trade," he continued.

Anunda, who was attached to the Tchundwa Police Post in Lamu East, was carrying a G3 rifle loaded with 60 rounds of ammunition at the time of his disappearance.

Lamu County Commissioner Irungu Macharia stated that the body of the officer was found about three kilometres from Kizingitini and about 400 metres deep in the forest.

His body had deep panga cuts and the police suspected the officer was murdered elsewhere before his body was dumped at the scene.
