EXCLUSIVE: Last Minute Move That Rescued Ali Manzu's KTN Career

KTN News anchor Ali Manzu's journalism career would have suffered a terrible blow had he not second-guessed himself and reconsidered moving to a rival media house.

Manzu, speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, narrated that when some of his colleagues moved on to K24TV, he too considered taking the leap as well as it would have been a major move for his career.

Having been in KTN for a decade, the thought of switching media houses was exciting, but he decided to first contact the human resources department at the studio to get clarity on the state of affairs.

"I called the man who was after me and posed the question as to how they were set to retain the best of the best that they were planning to poach, but the answer made me reconsider."

The KTN News journalist recounted not being convinced with the explanation and thus opted to remain at the station where he had experienced unprecedented growth in his career.

Manzu also stated that he had not been satisfied with the work environment at K24 TV and decided not to move, inadvertently rescuing his career.

"I was to be in that group of journalists who lost their jobs, but I changed my mind," he narrated, referring to the recent firing spree by the tv station.

"When you are sure of the channel, get into it, but when you are not sure, then listen to your guts. My guts told me to remain at KTN, and that is where I am right now," Manzu stated.

Ali's entry into mainstream media was in 2002 as an intern at the KBC’s Sauti House where he did video production. While he was there, Manzu worked on ‘Penzi Hatari’, a classic local TV show.

From that period, Manzu has risen to the position of a senior news anchor and editor with KTN News and the Standard newspaper.
