Party Suspends Senator Over Kibra By-Election Insult [VIDEO]

The Amani National Congress (ANC) on Friday, November 15, took stern action against Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malala over the recently concluded Kibra by-election.

The Musalia Mudavadi-led party took the action against the senator for campaigning for a rival party's candidate in the November 7, mini-poll.

NTV reported that Malala had been accused of campaigning for the MP-elect, Benard 'Imran' Okoth, of the ODM party even though ANC had fielded Eliud Owalo.

The motion to kick Malala out of the party was formally submitted to the party on November 3, by the party officials from his own county of Kakamega.

ANC Kakamega branch led by chairman Julius Arunga resolved that the senator needed to be ejected for violating the Political Parties Act and ANC constitution.

The Standard reported that Arunga had claimed that it was also morally wrong for the senator to campaign for Okoth rather than Owalo was sponsored by the party that also sponsored him to the senate.

“He rode to the Senate on an ANC ticket and it is unfortunate when he (Malala) starts hurling insults at our party leader Musalia Mudavadi, disparaging the party and working with our competitors.

“As a branch, we have resolved that disciplinary action be taken against Malala as we start preparing to gather signatures at branch level in order to recall him,” Arunga stated.

The party also accused Malala of uttering words that were insulting to Mudavadi and the party in general during a rally in Kibra while in the company of Kakamega Governor Wycliffe Oparanya of ODM.

Also in the rally was ANC's nominated MP Godfrey Osotsi who survived a similar onslaught to have his name expunged from the ANC register, a move that would have cost him his position.

The duo insisted that the ANC party leader needed to forge an alliance with ODM party leader Raila Odinga in 2022.
