Amos Wako’s Wife's Powerful Lineage

Busia Senator Amos Wako has managed to keep his wife and family under the glare of the media.

Wako's wife is one Flora Ngaira Wako and details of his family emerged after the US government barred the couple and their lawyer son, Julius, from entering its territory citing links to corruption.

Flora had managed to keep her life away from the public eye for a long time, so who exactly is Flora Ngaira?

A report by Standard Media Group revealed that she is a scion of a prominent wealthy family in Kakamega as her father, Benjamin Shidzugane Ngaira was a wealthy and respected civil servant.

He became the first African deputy chair of the Public Service Commission in 1962 when he was appointed by Kenya’s last colonial Governor, Malcolm MacDonald.

Flora, who wrote the children's book 'Kenyan Fables’ published in 1989, has three siblings who also high-level statesmen.

They include pioneer research scientist Beneah Majisu who was the first director of Muguga Forestry Institute, Professor Norah Olembo and the late Jemimah Kaisha, a long-serving secretary at State House.

Apart from Julius, Amos and Flora have a daughter, Debora Wako.

Flora's father died at Kenyatta National Hospital on February 27, 1968, after doctors forgot to remove some material, including cotton wool after an operation before stitching him up, forcing a second operation that claimed his life.

Radieda MP Otiende Amollo on November 18, 2019, expressed his surprise after the US barred Wako's family from entering its territory and argued that she may have been unfairly targeted.
