EXCLUSIVE: Governor Waititu Opens Up About His Exploits Away From Office

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu gave an account of how being out of office has helped him to concentrate on personal matters, family and a great holiday moment.

“Being out of office has helped me go to different places for holidays. I have been able to travel to many beautiful places to refresh my mind away from the normal political life. I had some time with myself and am ready to resume duties when the court allows,” remarked Waititu.

“Politics make leaders forget about having time for themselves. That moment is very important to help anyone maintain a good state of mind with which they will work for the people,” added Waititu.

However, the governor declined to give details of the destinations he has traveled, a source close to him pointing out that he indeed took his time traversing the country.

He, however, couldn’t travel overseas as his travel documents are being held by the government as directed in a ruling ordering him to surrender them in court and temporarily be out of office in August 8.

Further Waititu confirmed his drastic change of mind in support of the political handshake between President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM party leader Raila Odinga citing the recent Mt Kenya leaders meeting as what has led to his current stance.

“I am now officially in support of the handshake and the BBI 100%. However if it will propose more positions in the executives, appointments should be done before elections to avoid political betrayals from the leaders.” expressed the governor.

A rather reserved Waititu couldn’t confirm nor deny having put in place efforts of reaching the President, a source indicating vehement efforts to reach the high office after what appeared like a strong fallout between the two shortly after the governor was accused of embezzling over Ksh580 million taxpayers money.

The source further revealed that recently the governor has been spending time locked in his private office along Koinange street, where he has been concentrating on the running of his family businesses.

“When you pass along Koinange streets, you can see his posh vehicles parked outside Jamii Bora House from early morning. Other vehicles parked there belong to close political and business friends who have stood with the governor to date,” revealed the source.

Close political friends have been frequent visitors of the governor in the cold, ostensibly providing a team that will help facilitate a way back to the prestigious Kiambu governor position.

On August 8, High Court judge Justice Ngenye Macharia gave orders barring Governor Waititu from accessing his official office, an order that left the county in the hands of Deputy Governor Dr. James Nyoro.

Justice Macharia also noted that the law was clear in requiring any state officer or public servant facing litigation to stay away from their office and earn half their salaries until the cases are eventually concluded.

Others charged with Waititu were CEC Luka Mwangi Waihinya, tender committee members Zacharia Njenga, Simon Kibocho Kang’ethe, Joyce Ngina Musyoka, Anslem Gachukia Wanjiku and Samuel Muigai Mugo who are out on revised bail terms.
