Details of Police IG's Historic Midnight Visit to City Police Station

Police IG Hillary Mutymbai visited Kasarani Police Station at midnight on Thursday, November 21, 2019.

The announcement was made in a statement published by the National Police Service, adding that he launched the digital occurrence book.

“This morning, at 0000hrs the IG opened a new chapter in the history of policing in the country by inaugurating a digital occurrence book (OB), at Kasarani Police Station” the tweet read.

The digitization of the OB will make sure that the entries made into it are permanent and cannot be edited. This will ensure accountability and transparency of the records.

Once reports are entered into the system, they can be monitored by ward, county and regional commanders.

The statement released pointed out that the move would make rendering off of services more effective and improve response time.

The IG will also be able to monitor all activities from his office. This is the government's latest move to digitize essential services.

A majority of Kenyan’s on Twitter received the news with applause.

“A great step in the fight against corruption. In the world of automation- no step is too small. This is one great move. Will be glad to have it mobile on our roads” one comment read.

The new move will go a long way in addressing the tampering of police records by rogue officers who collude with criminals to cripple investigations.
