Four Family Members Burned to Death in Night Inferno

A family of four were burnt to death after a fire broke out on Sunday, November 24, after a suspected arsonist set their house ablaze in Nyunzu Market Makueni County. The incident allegedly happened at 4 am.

The woman Ms Regina Mueni 49, her daughter Faith Mangeli 27 and her granddaughters Angel Masava and Amelia Masava aged 5 and 2 all died in the fire incident.

Mueni’s mother, Monica Matolo survived the arson with slight burns. She was rushed to Makueni County Hospital for treatment.

"This is a clear case of arson, there is a strong smell of Petrol on the smouldering debris," Mohamed Maalim, Makueni County commissioner was quoted by the Daily Nation.

Although no arrests have been made, neighbours told journalists that there has been an ongoing land dispute between Mueni and her brothers.

“The land dispute had been solved through the assistance of local administrators and a decision had arrived that the land would be subdivided today (Sunday),” Mr Maalim informed the journalists.

Timothy Maina, Makueni Sub-county commissioner informed the publication that an investigation had been launched into the incident.

The two brothers at the centre of the land dispute are suspected to have had something to do with the incident.

“The police are pursuing Ms Mueni’s brothers. They are the prime suspects,” the county commissioner added.

The victims' bodies were taken to Makueni County Referral Hospital Mortuary.
