Ruto Unveils Elaborate Plan After Visiting Embattled Kapenguria

Deputy President William Ruto, on Monday, November 25, unveiled an elaborate plan for West Pokot residents shortly after visiting the tragedy-ridden Kapenguria region.

According to a report ran by People Daily, the DP promised that the state would relocate all the affected citizens to safer grounds.

He explained that the government would not allow victims to return to the region because it was established as a dangerous zone prone to landslides.

Ruto further stated that the move was necessary in order to avert future tragedies.

“The government will ensure that all the people living in landslide-prone areas in West Pokot are evacuated and relocated to safer grounds pending their resettlement in alternative places," stated Ruto.

The DP also disclosed that the state, through the Ministry of Transport, would embark on repairing the roads that were affected by the region's heavy downpour.

“The government is working around the clock to ensure all roads that have been cut off due to the landslide are opened up to allow the multi-agency team to embark on rescue and relocation of the affected families in Pokot South, Sigor and Pkumo sub-county along the valley,” continued Ruto.

He also promised to provide a chopper for the medical team to attend to survivors locked in the regions that have been totally cut off by the landslides.

The DP was accompanied by West Pokot Governor John Lonyangapuo, Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen and Pokot South MP David Pkosing among others.

Heavy rains hit the region causing deadly landslides with Tapach and Parua in Pokot South, and Tamkal in Pokot Central being the most affected.

Lonyangapuo disclosed that the death toll was rising fast and that the latest number was pegged at 52.
