Maasai elder Mzee Philip Toikan ole Lemein, 93, on November 24, received his fourth presidential award after President Uhuru Kenyatta feted him for his exemplary service in the scout movement.
He was awarded the Silver Lion Medal (SLM) for his distinguished service and exceptional character towards the scout movement as reported by Daily Nation.
"This award goes to him for his dedication and service since independence,” President Uhuru stated.
In 2012, Mzee Lemein was awarded the Head of State Commendation (HSC) by former President Mwai Kibaki for his service in the District Peace Committee.
The 93-year-old is also the recipient of the Long Service Decoration by President Daniel Moi for his distinguished services to the scout movement.
Lemein, was in the year 1969, also feted by founding father Mzee Jomo Kenyatta.
The four-time presidential award recipient boasts a host of other honorary awards including recognition by former Nairobi Mayor Dick Wathika in 2006.
Adding to his impressive resume, Lemein featured among the founders of KADU along with President Moi and Justus Ole Tipis.
“I had joined active politics in June the previous year when former President Daniel Moi and Justus ole Tipis approached me to form a new political party, KADU,” Lemein revealed.
He served as the first senator of Narok from 1963 to 1966 before the Senate was merged with the House of Representatives, and later as the Member of Parliament for Narok South Constituency between 1966 and 1969.
