Dusit D2 Lead Investigator Collapses & Dies at JKIA

A senior police officer who was the lead investigator during the Dusit D2 terror attack collapsed and died shortly after arriving at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport on Saturday, November 30.

The officer, identified as Chief Inspector Monica Wambui Githaiga, had touched down at the busy airport from Japan where she had undertaken a short course.

She had connected her flight through Dubai and Ethiopia.

According to a report by the police, as reported by The Standard, Wambui had complained of feeling unwell while in Dubai where she was treated and allowed to board a flight to Kenya.

She was confirmed dead upon arrival at a clinic within the airport. she had complained of chest pains and dizziness.

The publication quoted witnesses who claimed that Wambui had vomited at the airport before she was rushed to the clinic.

The police, however, could not identify the cause of her death and an autopsy is set to shed more light on the matter.

Wambui, who is attached to the Anti-Terror Police Unit (ATPU), was the lead investigator of the January 15, Dusit D2 terror attack.

The incident claimed 21 lives.

In her investigations, Wambui established that one of the suspects in custody received Sh9 million from South Africa which the police believed was aimed at financing the activities.
