One Dead, 3 in Critical Condition After Horrific Matatu Accident

One person has been confirmed dead and two others left in critical condition after two 14-seater matatus collided at Rupingazi Bridge in Majengo on the Embu-Meru highway.

In the accident, 29 others were injured and are now receiving treatment at Embu level five hospital.

Speaking to Citizen Tv, Embu County Commissioner Abdullahi Galgalo confirmed said three people are in critical condition while 26 others sustained serious injuries.

According to Galgalo, the two 14-seater matatus were headed in opposite directions when the Embu accident occurred.

Galgalo further urged motorists to be extra cautious especially during the festive season.

“We urge our drivers to exercise caution especially as we approach the Christmas season. We will also ensure that the police ensure that all traffic rules are observed to the letter,” remarked Galgallo.

Rupingazi Bridge is a notorious blackspot where many accidents have occurred for vehicles plying along the busy Embu-Meru route.

This comes after data from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) revealed that a total of 3,225 Kenyans died in road accidents from January to December, while 10,825 sustained injuries.
