Viral Photo of Sabina Chege 'on Her Knees' Before Ruto Explained

On Friday, December 6, a photo of Murang'a Women Representative Sabina Chege insinuating her kneeling before DP William Ruto made rounds on social media.

The picture was taken during a women empowerment drive, Maragua, Murang’a County but was cropped out to portray the female legislator on her knees while handing the DP a campaign contribution.

Sabina was presenting President Uhuru Kenyatta's contribution to DP Ruto who was presiding over the event.

Ruto, who was standing on the podium, was on a vantage point and as legislator delivered the contribution it appeared as though she was kneeling down.

However, a closer look and another picture of the same event showed that Sabina was on a lower point hence the massive difference in height.

On Sunday, December 8, She took to her social media to explain that she was not kneeling stating,"Standing and not kneeling. I only kneel before God. Thank you, Uhuru Kenyatta, for your support to Maragua women. Your contribution was well received."

During the event, Ruto conveyed that the government had made remarkable progress in including women in the decision-making bracket.

He explained that their inclusion and intensified engagement in the country’s political and economic structures narrowed the gender gap, furthering the attainment of the 2030 sustainable development agenda.

"But we need to do more to make women seize the opportunities available to them without limitations; we must educate them, allow women to access and control productive resources, train and equip them to make transformative decisions in our country," he stated.
