Uhuru's Ex-Classmate Regrets Rejecting President's Offer

David Kipngetich Towett, 58, son to former veteran politician and late Education Minister Taita Towett on Monday, December 9 cried out to President Uhuru Kenyatta to come to his aid, due to his financial situation.

Kipngetich, who claims to have attended the prestigious St Mary's School together with President Kenyatta, hopes that the head of state can save him from the jaws of poverty.

Speaking to Kenya News Agency, he stated that his utmost priority was to give a decent education to his eight children who had already dropped out of school due to lack of school fees.

The former MPs son stated he had big dreams of walking in the footsteps of his eloquent and generous father, who took him to the US between 1963-1964, where he attended kindergarten while the big man furthered his studies.

He would later, in 1968, enroll at St Mary's School Nairobi for Class Four, where he met President Kenyatta but left the same year for Elburgon Primary School in Molo, Nakuru County where he completed his basic education.

He completed his secondary education at Taita Towett Secondary School in Kericho in 1976.

Kipngetich further narrated the times he interacted with the president and other pupils at St Mary's, many of whom were of European descent.

He further recalled that he had met his former classmate in Kericho, by penetrating his security detail during the opening of Imarisha Kebbo Plaza on Kericho-Nakuru Highway on December 9, 2016.

The former minister's son got to speak with the president near the entrance to Kericho county commissioner’s offices, but he developed cold feet after Uhuru directed him to enter one of the escort vehicles.

He claimed this was the action he regretted most, not heeding the president's instructions.

“I got nervous and found myself not moving despite talking to the president of the republic face-to-face. I only have in possession a newspaper cutting of a photo by Taifa Leo that was taken showing me talking to the president. I regret not entering his security motorcade as he had directed,” stated Kipngetich.

The father of eight stated that after his father's death in a road accident in 2007, he tried to seek help from his late father’s close friends and associates, including former presidents Daniel Arap Moi and Mwai Kibaki but wasn't successful.
