Sonko Rushed to Hospital at Midnight

Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko was on Monday evening, December 9, taken to Kenyatta National Hospital after being examined by a doctor at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.

Capital FM was first to report that the governor, who is facing corruption charges, was admitted at KNH shortly before midnight.

On Monday, December 10, anti-corruption magistrate, Douglas Ogoti, ordered that he can only be taken to the hospital once examined by a prison doctor to ascertain if he required medical attention.

The governor's lawyer, Cecil Miller, told the court that the County boss developed complications after he was engaged in a scuffle with police officers in Voi.

On his part, while speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, county communications director, Jacob Elkana, claimed that the governor had been unwell since the altercation.

"H.E the Governor did not start feeling unwell yesterday, he started developing complications when he was assaulted by police officers at Voi on Friday 6th," Jacob Elkana, the Nairobi County Communication Director stated.

Sonko’s lawyer, Harrison Kinyanjui, called for the arrest of a police officer who was captured on camera beating up the city boss.

“It is embarrassing that this happened to our beloved governor who now urgently needs medication because of the inhumane way he was treated by rogue police officers,” read an excerpt of the statement from Sonko's team.

The lawyer also claimed that Sonko was physically injured to a point where he limped in pain during his dramatic arrest.
