KK Combined FC and Gusii Starlets Crowned Betika Na Community Kisii Champions

Local football teams KK Combined FC (men’s) and Gusii Starlets (ladies) emerged overall winners at the Betika na Community football tournament held in Kisii county on 14th and 15th December.

The two teams, who won Ksh200,000 and Ksh100,000 cash prizes respectively, battled it out against 18 other teams for the much-coveted title.

Apart from the cash prizes, the winning team was awarded a Betika shop and a 5000-litre water tank to support their local community project.

All participating teams were provided with football kits and balls to further their training.

The tournament which was graced by His Excellency James Ongwae, Kisii County Governor, had over 7,000 fans in attendance.

It was a culmination of week-long activities, held by the betting firm in Kisii which saw them hand out occupational gear and protective clothing e.g. conductor and reflector jackets and mechanic overalls to the Kisii residents.

Speaking during the tournament, Betika’s Commercial Head, Mr John Mbatiah stated, "We are excited to witness the amazing levels of football talent in Kisii.

"We remain committed to investing in our community through the promotion of grassroots football in our country and are looking forward to similar tournaments in the remaining counties throughout 2020," he stated.
