Disturbing Details Surrounding Death of Court of Appeal Judge

A Court of Appeal Judge collapsed and died in Kisumu on the morning of Monday, December 16, at his home in Groovehut Apartments in Milimani Estate.

Details have now emerged that Prof. Otieno Odek was found dead on his bed, with blood oozing from his ears and other open body parts.

Nyanza regional police commander Vincent Makokha told People Daily that Odek's body did not have any signs of physical injury.

On his part, Kisumu Chief Magistrate Julius Ngar Ngar stated that Odek's driver found his door locked when he went to pick him up.

The driver is then said to have reported the matter to the police, who had to break the door.

The magistrate went ahead and stated that Odek's body was partly covered with a blanket as his head lay on one of his hands.

Odek's cause of death has yet to be established as investigations are ongoing.

He was sworn into the Court of Appeal bench in 2012 and applied for the Supreme Court job in 2011 but did not sail through.

Chief Justice David Maraga mourned the deceased as a widely published and celebrated author across the continent and beyond.

"He was not only a distinguished judge but also a prolific legal scholar who was widely published and celebrated across the continent and beyond," he stated.
