Governor Waititu Impeached

Kiambu governor Ferdinand Waititu was on Thursday, December 19, impeached by the County Assembly of Kiambu.

The impeachment process was tabled against Waititu on grounds of mishandling of county funds.

In the unanimous vote, 63 MCAs voted to impeach the governor with only one member voting against the motion.

The motion to impeach Waititu was brought to the floor of the house on December 3 by Ndenderu MCA Solomon Kinuthia who has long been seen to oppose Waititu’s leadership style.

In the submission by Kinuthia, Waititu went against the set regulations and breached the public procurement and disposal act by personally influencing the award of high enriching tenders to companies associated with his close family members .

In the petition, the governor was also accused of recruiting over 600 casuals without the proper procedure where the County Public Service Board wasn't involved.

The Ndenderu MCA indicated that this exposed the county to the risk of a number of legal suits and loss of public money.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Sports CEC and close confidant of the governor Karungo Thang'wa, rubbished off the claims that Waititu had been impeached describing the process as a failed exercise.

Karungo further refuted the assembly's speaker indicating that 63 MCAs were in the house, claiming that only 57 were present for the exercise.

Karungo further indicated that 30 MCAs were in Nakuru while 3 others were in Dubai, therefore rendering the exercise null and void.

This now set another forum for more court battles as the Governor try to secure the position that has been faced by a myriad of challenges.
