Moses Kuria Arrested

Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria was on Friday January 10 arrested by officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations over an assault report made at Kilimani Police Station on December 2019. 

Netizens had earlier called for the arrest of the legislator, accusing him of assaulting a Kiambu activist, Joyce Wanja.   

Wanja had reported the matter to Kilimani Police Station on December 8, 2019. 

In a video which circulated widely on social media, Wanja accused the Gatundu South MP of battering her after an interview at Royal Media's Inooro TV.

"I was assaulted by Kuria after the show after I told him that his utterances during a past music show at Ruiru were demeaning to women.

"I have been going to the police to write statements concerning the same but I have never gotten justice," remarked Wanja.

The activist further alleged that she was injured during the scuffle as Kuria hit her in the presence of four others after the interview.

"He hit me hard with his fist and I ended up falling down from the impact.

"I am only seeking justice from the relevant government bodies because I am not in a position to hire a lawyer to assist me seek justice in court," added Wanja.

A medical report by the victim that was presented to the Kilimani Police Station on Friday December 10 indicated that Wanja was injured during the assault.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations DCI confirmed the arrest of Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria over an assault report made at Kilimani Police Station on December 2019.

The Directorate tweeted;

"Gatundu South MP Hon. Moses Kuria was today morning arrested by DCI Detectives based at Kilimani following an Assault report lodged against him on 10th December 2019. He is currently being held in lawful custody as further investigations ensue." read the tweet.
