22 Students Arrested at Alice Wahome’s Event

Police officers in Murang’a County on Wednesday, January 15 arrested 22 university students for allegedly trying to disrupt a meeting organised by local Member of Parliament Alice Wahome.

Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, a correspondent from the area confirmed the incident, reporting that more than 20 students from a leading university were arrested on allegations of being hired to disrupt the event.

“The students were arrested in the morning after they were allegedly dropped at the event by rivals of the home MP.

“After questioning by locals, it was established that none of them was from the area. They could not answer simple questions and this arose suspicion,” remarked the journalist.

In a video obtained by Kenyans.co.ke, Kandara MP Alice Wahome condemned the act, accusing rival politicians of being behind the plan.

“I have information that Nominated MP Maina Kamanda, Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege, former MP Joshua Toro and a number of MCAs hatched the whole plan to disrupt today’s meeting.

Wahome also alleged that the leaders had been holding meetings to intrude her events in Murang’a County.

“I have my own sources and I already have a list of more than 50 people who have been meeting in a hotel in Murang’a County, planning on how to bring me down.

“Last month I had a conference at Kenol that was interrupted by the same people,” claimed Wahome.

The parliamentarian further asked the leaders to avoid disrupting public functions that were aimed at benefiting the local community.

“Last night I received information that there would be disruptions organised by four groups.

“The form one students and the parents need the money. Why would anyone think that they can disrupt such an event, denying needy parents and students the chance to benefit?” she wondered.

After the arrest, the students were locked up at the local CDF offices before being handed over to officers from Kandara Police Station.

However, Murang’a Woman Representative Sabina Chege denied the allegations that she was part of a team that planned the disruptions.
