Otiende Amollo Distances Himself From Babu Owino Court Drama

Rarieda MP Otiende Amollo has debunked a video that has been making rounds on social media since the arrest of Embakasi East MP Babu Owino on Friday, January 17.

The clip shows the Rarieda MP and Owino being frogmarched by police officers after engaging in an altercation with them.

Through his social media page on Friday, January 17, Amollo stated that the video was from 2018 when the police had refused to release Babu Owino despite court orders.

"My attention has been drawn to a 2018 video clip in which we engaged with policemen when they refused to release Hon Babu Owino despite a court order then.

"It’s an old clip and has nothing to do with the reported shooting incidence of which I’m not briefed. I’m busy in Rarieda," Amollo wrote on his Twitter.

At the time, in 2018, Owino had been arrested by flying squad officers outside Parliament Buildings over claims of assault and malicious damage of property.

The Embakasi MP is currently behind bars after he allegedly shot Felix Orinda, known to many as DJ Evolve, at B Club in Nairobi.

Witnesses stated that the DJ was shot twice on the neck after banter between him and the MP went wrong.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) had announced that the lawmaker would be charged with attempted murder.

"Detectives have managed to recover the firearm that is suspected to have been used by Hon. Babu Owino at the B Club shooting incident. Nine rounds of ammunition and a spent cartridge have also been recovered and placed as exhibit awaiting analysis by ballistic experts," read a statement by DCI.
