Former Nyatike MP, Ocholla Ogur, passed away on Wednesday, January 30, at the Nairobi Hospital.
Reports revealed that the 82-year-old former assistant minister died after several of his vital organs failed.
"It’s true Ogur passed on after his organs failed after a battle with diabetes," his former personal assistant Jasper Ater told the Standard.
"The former legislator had been in ICU after he was diagnosed with acute kidney failure. He died on Wednesday at around 3.30 p.m. while undergoing treatment," he further revealed.
The former legislator was renowned for his humorous nature, with current Nyatike MP Tom Odege, eulogising Ogur as a man who valued honour and carried himself with a lot of dignity.
"Ogur's death is certainly a big loss to Nyatike Constituency, which he led with honour and dignity when he was the MP and the people of Kenya whom he ably served as assistant minister for Health," Odege stated
“We remember during his tenure as our MP the many development projects he initiated and accomplished, key among them being schools and health facilities. His good deeds will remain as a permanent reminder of his leadership," reads a section of the legislator's message of condolence.
The late Ogur served in the National Assembly for three consecutive terms, working under former president Daniel arap Moi's KANU party in 1988, before crossing over to the opposition in 1992.
In 2007, members of his electorate stop his pick-up truck during his campaign trail and pelted it with oranges and mangoes.
Ogur had allegedly carried the fruits to distribute among the crowd after addressing them, while his direct rival at the time Omondi Anyanga, was reportedly dishing out brand new notes.
"We will forever be indebted to him as much as he will eternally remain an icon of our great constituency. My deepest condolences and sympathies are accorded to his family, friends and the people of Nyatike. We will remain supportive to the family during this time of sorrow. May his soul rest in eternal peace," reads a section of the area MP's eulogy.
