Political analyst and University of Nairobi don Herman Manyora has put DP Ruto to task over his ever-serious political stance.
In an opinion piece for the Daily Nation on Tuesday, February 4, Manyora advised DP Ruto to borrow a leaf from President Uhuru Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga who attended the UB40 Reggae concert over the weekend.
He opined that DP Ruto had taken politics to the heart much to his own detriment and needed to find a proper way to let off political steam.
"Now Ruto might argue that he is too committed to public service to waste time on hedonism. He is famously a proud teetotaller and it's likely that his entertainment preference is the church choir rather than loud Reggae or Rock music amplified by alcohol, cigarettes and possibly open puffing of some unapproved substances," Manyora opined.
Insisting that DP Ruto was entitled to his own choices of letting off steam, Manyora intimated that he was doubtful as to whether DP Ruto's ventures served the purpose as intended.
"My worry is that his church sojourns, often marked by Kuria Kanyingiesque (a reference to the late Limuru MP Kuria Kanyingi 'moneybags') displays are more often political than worship events," he wrote.
Manyora indicated that DP Ruto had been surrounded by individuals who were only interested in what he had to offer more than his political well-being.
"Maybe the DP would have found more peace and calm at the UB40 concert than when surrounded by greedy preachers clamoring for his cash."
"This was a place he could have put all the political stresses aside and danced with wild abandon to the best of UB40."
Manyora also weighed in on Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria's humiliation at the BBI Rally in Kitui and accused Raila of looking on as the DP Ruto ally was humiliated.
He indicated that Odinga should have taken steps to ensure such humiliation does not occur, a matter that DP Ruto too should take up in reining in on members of his Tangatanga brigade.
