Gun Fired at Joshua Kutuny's Home

A woman claiming to have Cheregany MP Joshua Kutuny's child stormed the MP's house at midnight seeking money for the baby's upkeep.

According to a police report, Joyline Chemutai is said to have been shouting around the MP's homestead, when police officers were alarmed of the situation.

Officers from Hardy Police Station, constables Emmanuel Maiyo and Mercy Ngeno, responded after learning of the situation.

“Upon rushing to Kutuny’s house, they heard a woman in Kutuny’s compound shouting that ‘they wanted to kill her’. In the process, police officer Maiyo fired one round of 7.62mm of ammunition using his CZ rifle No. C276787 to calm the situation," a statement filed at Hardy Police Station under OB No. 02/5/2/2020 stated.

Nairobi Police boss Philip Ndolo stated that the matter was private and under investigation.

“The matter is rather private, and our mandate was to restore peace and order at the MP’s house. On matters child support, the MP and the lady should square it out in or out of court, depending on how they’ll agree to resolve the problem," Ndolo stated.

Kutuny adds to the list of politicians who have previously been accused of siring children without taking care of them.

In 2019 after the late Kibra MP Ken Okoth died, Ann Thumbi, a woman who claimed to be his partner emerged with a five year-old-son, demanding recognition before the MP's final rites.

Thumbi's actions started a conversation in the country of various leaders who were not taking care of their children.

Following the news, Nairobi Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko stated that he was constituting a legal team to represent the mothers who had filed complaints against absentee fathers who happened to be in positions of leadership.

“We are in the final process of hiring advocates for all the affected victims so that those implicated can be compelled by the courts to take DNA tests,” read part of his post.
