Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has claimed that President Uhuru Kenyatta has a serious flaw in a field that his deputy William Ruto excels in.
According to a report by Daily Nation, the outspoken lawmaker explained that unlike Ruto, the president seldom mentor's other politicians to rise through the political ranks.
Getting specific, the MP further noted that Ruto, as well as the late former President Daniel Moi and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, has held other politicians' hands and guided them through the murky world of politics.
He was speaking at a funeral in Kandara Constituency in the week beginning Monday, February 10, 2020.
In retrospect, the MP insinuated that growth in the Mt Kenya region was taking a slow pace because the president was oppressing upcoming leaders, referencing Kandara MP Alice Wahome and her Kiharu counterpart Ndindi Nyoro.
“From the death of the second President Daniel Moi, we learned that he nurtured youthful leaders like Kalonzo Musyoka and others. Ruto is nurturing youthful leaders like Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot while in ODM, Edwin Sifuna (ODM secretary-general) and Junet Mohammed (Suna East MP) have been mentored politically.
"When you come to Mt Kenya, we see that the potential leaders like Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro and Kandara’s Alice Wahome are being (suppressed) when they try to raise their heads, this poses a great danger of the future leadership in this region,” explained Kuria.
In her previous media briefings, Wahome claimed that the president was an existential threat and a few days later claimed that her life was in danger over her utterances.
On Monday, February 3, Wahome, who has been a vocal critic of President Kenyatta's administration, informed Kenyans.co.ke that her efforts to have her security reinstated were being frustrated.
"My security was withdrawn yesterday, Monday, February 3 and the person in charge of security of government buildings (SGB) has not responded to me," she protested.
Nyoro, on the other hand, got arrested at the Saint James Cathedral Church in Murang'a on Monday, September 9, 2018.
Nyoro had been sought after a confrontation between him and nominated MP Maina Kamanda ensued during a church service earlier that day.
Nyoro and Kamanda clashed during a service at Gitui Catholic Church in Kiharu causing chaos that disrupted the proceedings.
