Five passengers, three from one family perished after the saloon car they were travelling in got into an accident in Kangu area along the Mwea-Embu road.
The accident occured when a lorry moving at a high speed hit the saloon car from behind.
Witness accounts indicate that the car's driver lost control and rolled several times, killing the five on the spot.
The driver of the lorry is reported to have fled the scene.
Police officers have asked local residents to help in the manhunt of the driver.
The scene of the fatal incident has been identified as a black spot after several accidents happened around the same area.
This month saw another tragic road crash along the same road in which eight people lost their lives.
