The Building Bridges Initiative report has been the subject to talk across the nation between Kenyans and local politicians.
Former Kameme FM reporter who also served as a Sports CEC in the County Government of Kiambu, Karungo Thang’wa, took it upon himself to help others understand the report by translating it to Kikuyu language.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke, Karungo explained that a translated version of the report would reach a larger audience, especially in the Mt Kenya region.
“I am working on the BBI report now aiming at creating a Kikuyu language copy to be read by those who understand the language. I want to make sure that the report is highlighted in a simple understandable document.
“I took this as a personal initiative bearing in mind that there are more than eight million people who can understand the language. I believe that vernacular is the first language that someone understands and therefore makes it easy for all people to easily grasp the report details,” remarked Karungo.
The former CEC also stated that his work to translate the document would help reach ageing citizens who may not benefit from the highly popularised BBI campaign rallies.
“I thought of how my old grandfather or grandmother would understand the report details. If they are able to read a Kikuyu Bible, then they can be able to understand the Kikuyu version of the BBI.
“Any leader who is genuine and passionate about the BBI report should not just hide behind rallies. They should put all efforts in place to ensure that their electorate understands the report,” remarked Karungo.
The former MCA also indicated that he aimed to establish a team that would help him finalise the translation within one month.
“Right now we are only two of us doing the translation but my aim is that the team continues to grow in the coming days.
“I am now away from government duties and this has given me a good time that I am using to do the translation work,” added Karungo.
This is not the first time for the former journalist to be involved in such a task, as he translated the 2010 Constitution highlights.
Karungo lost his CEC position in Kiambu after the impeachment of former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu by the Senate on January 29.
