Media personality and budding entrepreneur Maureen Waititu, has come clean on her personal battle with depressive thoughts and how it haunted all her relationships.

Speaking to Grace Msalame on NTV during her Unscripted show aired on Saturday, February 22, the content creator explained how she battled with feelings of rejection from a young age, having grown up in a world where her father walked away, leaving her world in a tailspin.

She was then tossed around between her mum's and aunt's houses, a move which further fueled her feelings of rejection and depression.

"I felt like my mum didn't want me and my dad had long rejected me. At some point I told my mum that I was not a football to be tossed around," she narrated.

The Kenyatta University Law school alumnus went on to explain how her father blatantly turned her away every time she tried to see him.

"Every time I'd go to his office and tell him that I need school fees, he'd straight-up turn me down. There's a day he left me to walk home from his office here in Nairobi all the way to my mum's house in Kiambu," she recounted.

"I was only 16 and was traumatised. I asked myself what sort of cruelty this was," she further explained.

Maureen confessed to having had a hard time forging relationships due to her cycle of rejection, adding that the few times she actually opened herself up to the dating pool, she somehow ended up attracting men who had similar characteristics to her absent father.

"Grace I'll be honest, I tried to take my life twice," she stated, leaving Grace in utter shock.

The vlogger pointed out that most people who went through her various social media pages envied her, without seeing the whole picture of her tumultuous life.

Her relationship with Frankie Kiarie also known as Frankie Just Gym was a hot topic in the public domain, using their YouTube channel Alpha Beta to document their relationship.

When quizzed on why they broke up, especially since they were admired by their online community for serving up 'couple goals', she simply stated that things spiraled and she had to take control of her life for the sake of her two children -both boys.

"I was pregnant within the first year of dating him and therefore I never really got to know him as a person. He was a very nice guy, charming and went overboard with the dinners, but then we became parents and challenges came up," she explained.

She went on to reveal that during her darkest days, both as a 16-year-old girl who felt rejected and the woman who separated from the father of her two kids, it was God who gave her both solace and the courage to walk away.

"Sometimes you simply need to cut off whatever part of your life is weighing you down, it could be your parent or spouse. You simply need to love yourself," she reiterated.

The bubbly businesswoman started her own hair making enterprise lifeandmau  -pronounced as 'life and mo', having started making her own wigs back when she used to serve as a personal assistant at a car dealership in the city.

"I began making my own weaves from under the table. At first, I would use stockings as wig caps and sew different weaves and hairpieces on them and voila, I had a unique wig for myself. I then started buying wig caps and apart from weaves, I was also using crotchet braids to make my wigs," she revealed.

Maureen urged anyone going through anything similar to make sure they seek help as there was no shame in admitting to going through a tough situation.
