A senior police officer's frustrations at City Hall has opened the lid about a seeming cold war between Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko and Inspector General of Police Hillary Mutyambai.

In a sit-down with Daily Nation on Tuesday, February 25, 2020, Security and Compliance Chief Officer Patrick Mwakio who was seconded by the National Police Service, disclosed that the office was frustrating him and had successfully postponed his duties since he was posted there on Thursday, February 6.

He further explained that he had received a secondment letter from the National Police Service, but City Hall was yet to issue him an acceptance letter.

“I have not been formally received despite presenting my letter of secondment from the national government to the acting county secretary. I was told that my letter of acceptance has to come from the County Public Service Board, and I am still waiting for it.

"I was also told that a vehicle will be assigned to me. I am still waiting for it. The last time I inquired, I was told it had no fuel," disclosed Mwakio.

He added that the delay was hindering him from performing his duties, considering that talk was rife that his predecessor, Tito Kilonzi, had been recalled by the IG over his alleged role in locking out sacked Finance CEC Pauline Kahiga by inspectorate officers.

"This does not happen in a civilised organisation. It shows that one is not wanted.

"I expected to be inducted into the system and given the letter to start my work, but I am still hanging in the balance, not knowing where to go or what to do,” he continued.

City Hall Director of Inspectorate Joseph Kipsang corroborated Mwakio's sentiments disclosing that they had not introduced him because he is yet to assume office.

"The county secretary has been missing from office and we have tried several times to get him to introduce Mr Mwakio in vain,” he explained.

Some Nairobi MCAs smelt a rat in the delaying alleging that the county government had intentionally sabotaged the incoming officer.
