After steering clear from the public for quite some time, former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero on Tuesday, February 25, resurfaced.

Kidero spoke out after Governor Mike Mbuvi Sonko surrendered his duties to the national government at State House.

In a statement posted on the former governor's  Facebook page, he stated; "Running Nairobi is not a walk in the park."

Kidero further attached a video of the day he conceded to his defeat and told Sonko of the challenges in the county.

The referenced media source is missing and needs to be re-embedded.

Earlier, Sonko and Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa in concurrence with President Uhuru Kenyatta  signed an agreement in which functions of the Nairobi County Government were handed to the national government, pursuant to Article 187 of the Constitution.

A statement sent to newsrooms stated that the move would enable a breakthrough in the running of county services that had ground to a halt.

At the helm of the city county, ableit at different times, Kidero and Sonko have found temselves in trouble with the law over financial misappropriation and procurement flaws.

Kidero and 13 other persons are facing charges over the alleged loss of Ksh213 million during his tenure.

On the other hand, Sonko and a host of county officials are facing prosecution over irregular payments amounting to Ksh357 million.

During Sonko's bail hearing on December 11, 2019, Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogoti barred him from accessing his office, leaving a leadership vacuum in the county that was compounded by the lack of a deputy governor.

Leaders from across the divide also weighed in on the matter.

"That’s a smart move at Nairobi County but how will they cure the County Government Act 34," former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo questioned.

"I am vindicated. Finally the national government through its chief legal advisor agrees that barring a governor from accessing office does not make him less of a governor. He has full powers to act as a governor. I believe my big bro the DPP now agrees with us," Elgeyo Marakwet Senator Kipchumba Murkomen weighed in.

"Article 187 of the Constitution does not authorize 2 individuals to sit in a room and transfer functions from one level of government to the other. It authorises governments to transfer functions legally through legislation via Parliament and the respective County Assembly," Miguna Miguna's statement read in part.
