Nyali MP Moha Jicho Pevu formally known as Mohammed Ali, on Monday, March 2, exposed Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i over unfulfilled promise in the Coast region.

Through a call-in to NTV, the outspoken lawmaker claimed that Matiang'i was the biggest impediment in the Coast region's fight against insecurity.

He further claimed that police officers in the region were doing a good job but the CS's failure to supply them with vehicles he had promised was hurting their efforts.

Ali supported his claims by stating that he was with Matiang'i during the tour in which he made the promise to equip the region's police officers with vehicles and other equipment.

"Police are carrying out their duties well in Mombasa County and I will repeat that... but I blame Interior CS Fred Matiang'i for his unfulfilled promises to the region.

"When he visited in 2019 and I accompanied him to launch police stations in Nyali, he vowed to ensure proper transport channels for the police in the region. The biggest problem we are facing today is that police officers do not have a means to go after thugs," explained Ali.

"The police lack appropriate equipment to deal with the criminals. In Nyali, police officers serve over 300,000 voters but they only possess one car. How do you expect the police to serve that number of people in only one vehicle?" posed the lawmaker.

He also disclosed that during the visit, the CS had promised to upgrade their living standards, a vow that he claimed was yet to be honoured.

"He promised cars, equipment and vowed to ensure that police lead decent lives. There is a lot of crime in Kisauni which is in our neighbouring constituency and I won't allow crime to spill over into Nyali," he added.

In November 2019, Ali had vowed to fight Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i during an animated rally held at Magongo Town in the coast on Monday, November 11.

The vocal leader also declared that the amicable relationship between his county and the Interior CS as well as his counterpart in the Transport ministry, James Macharia and Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho was officially over.

"Jambo la kwanza nataka kusema hivi, ndoa yetu na nyinyi imefika mwisho (I want to let you know that our 'marriage' is over)," the legislator announced at the time.

He went on decry the loss of revenue by firms in the logistics industry following the directive that of cargo must be ferried to Nairobi via the Standard Gauge Railway.
