Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, on Friday, March 6, spoke on the release of CCTV footage from Deputy President William Ruto's office showing former Sports CS Rashid Echesa's activity at Harambee House Annex.
Speaking in Siaya County during the burial of the late Kahawa Wendani MCA Cyrus Omondi, the former premier urged the DCI George Kinoti not to be bullied, but carry on investigations diligently.
"Have you seen the guys? Yesterday you saw DCI Kinoti unveiling damning evidence in the brutal killing of the security officer who was shot dead and you all know where he worked.
"I do not want to interfere with the investigations but it must be known that those who kill with the sword should also die with the sword," stated Raila.
On Thursday, March 5, Kinoti, during a press briefing regarding the brutal murder of Sergeant Kipyegon Kenei, aired CCTV clips retrieved from the DP's office, arguing that they believe the officer was murdered.
In the footage, Kinoti disproved Ruto's claims that former Sports CS Rashid Echesa was at Ruto's office for 23 minutes.
The footage revealed that Echesa had hosted foreign nationals at Harambee Annex for 1 hour 22 minutes.
"ODP does not procure for any ministry/department. Question: other than 23min in Annex, for months, which government offices involved in the 'tender' did the scammers visit? Did they access DOD? Who facilitated? Who did they meet? Get the truth. Forget the sponsored nonsense in media," Ruto had argued on February 15, 2020.
Kinoti stated that the initial 23-minute footage they had been handed was edited.
The DCI also demonstrated to members of the fourth estate who were present why Kenei could not have committed suicide as earlier speculated.
"So if he could have shot himself, no matter how we demonstrated the scene to satisfy the theory and hypothesis of suicide, with him bending - as you are going to see in our report - then automatically he would have fallen on his back.
"But what we found out was a stage-managed incident which is the opposite. If he was standing, definitely the blood matter and brain matter would have erupted into the ceiling, then the cartridge would have fallen on the right," he argued at the time.
